On 20th April 2026, a meaningful step was taken towards improving rural education at the Government Primary School in Kelakhera, Bazpur Tehsil, District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. Under the leadership of Guru Devi Animal and Welfare Trust, significant infrastructure improvements were completed to create a safer, healthier, and more engaging learning environment for children. The school, which once faced challenges of basic infrastructure, has now undergone a comprehensive transformation. These improvements are not just physical upgrades they represent a commitment to dignity, safety, and quality education for every child. A well-maintained school environment directly influences attendance, learning outcomes, and the overall well-being of students.

Courtyard
Our trust has successfully rebuilt and developed the school courtyard to create a safe, functional, and welcoming space for students. Previously, the courtyard was not properly designed or developed, which led to several challenges—uneven and unpaved surfaces posed safety risks, especially during playtime; poor drainage resulted in waterlogging during rains; and the absence of a structured layout limited opportunities for recreation, assemblies, and group activities. Additionally, the lack of seating and shaded areas made it uncomfortable for students to use the space effectively. Through this initiative, we have transformed the courtyard into a clean, level, and well-organized area that promotes safety, encourages physical activity, and fosters social interaction. This effort reflects our continued commitment to improving the school environment and enhancing the overall learning experience for students.

Our trust has undertaken the renovation of classroom floors to create a cleaner, safer, and more conducive learning environment for students. Earlier, the classroom floors were uneven, worn-out, and difficult to maintain, which not only affected cleanliness but also posed safety concerns for students and staff. Dust accumulation and damaged surfaces made it challenging to ensure proper hygiene and comfort during daily activities. As part of this initiative, we have laid high-quality tiles in the classrooms, resulting in smooth, durable, and easy-to-maintain flooring. Our trust has established a smart classroom to enhance the quality of teaching and make learning more engaging and effective for students. As part of this initiative, we have made the TV fully operational and equipped it with educational content, enabling digital and interactive learning within the classroom. We have also provided pen drives loaded with the complete course curriculum, ensuring that teachers have easy access to structured and ready-to-use study material. In addition, dedicated training sessions have been conducted for teachers to help them effectively use these digital tools and integrate them into their daily teaching practices. Our trust has upgraded the school’s doors and windows to improve safety, durability, and overall infrastructure quality. Previously, the wooden doors were in very poor condition—damaged, worn out, and difficult to maintain—posing concerns for both security and usability. As part of this improvement, we have replaced them with sturdy steel doors that are durable, secure, and long-lasting. These doors have been properly finished and well painted, enhancing both protection and the overall appearance of the classrooms. Our trust has rebuilt and strengthened the school’s boundary wall to ensure a secure and protected campus. Previously, the boundary wall was damaged and broken in several places, leaving the premises vulnerable to unauthorized entry and inappropriate activities, especially when the school was closed. This not only put school property at risk but also raised serious concerns about the overall safety of students. The lack of proper boundary security had a particularly strong impact on the sense of safety for girl students, affecting their confidence and comfort within the school environment. Through this initiative, we have constructed a strong and well-defined boundary wall that effectively safeguards the campus, prevents unauthorized access, and creates a secure space for all students.

Our trust has taken a meaningful step toward improving student welfare by establishing a dedicated kitchen facility within the school premises. Earlier, in the absence of a proper kitchen, mid-day meals were prepared in an open outdoor area, which posed several challenges. Cooking outside exposed food to dust, pollution, insects, and unpredictable weather conditions, raising concerns about hygiene and safety. It also made it difficult to maintain consistent quality, proper storage, and efficient cooking practices. With the introduction of a well-equipped, dedicated kitchen, we have ensured a cleaner, safer, and more organized environment for meal preparation.
